This feature is expected to replace the existing Smart Actions and Smart Reply options introduced in earlier Android versions like Android 9 and Android 10. Unlike the current system, which offers basic replies or shortcuts, Magic Actions will use AI to provide personalized and context-based solutions right from the notification panel.
What Are Magic Actions?
Imagine getting a notification about a delayed flight. With Magic Actions, you might see a button to directly call the airline’s customer service, even if the message lacks a contact number.
Or, if a friend shares a song link, the notification could offer the options to open it on Spotify or add it to a YouTube Music playlist. These actions will come with special visual effects or animations, making them stand out.
Smarter Alerts with AI
The Magic Actions feature will likely work through the Android System Intelligence app, using Gemini AI models to understand notification context. This means quick and accurate responses without opening multiple apps. For instance, a delayed package alert could show options like “Track Now” or “Contact Support” instantly.

Google isn’t stopping at Magic Actions. The company is also developing AI-powered notification summaries, similar to those on iOS, and bundled notifications like in Gmail to help manage alerts better.
