Fujifilm’s much-anticipated X-Half compact camera is making headlines, thanks to a fresh leak about its lens specs.
The new camera is expected to feature a 10mm f/2.8 fixed prime lens paired with a 1-inch sensor, offering a field of view similar to a 27mm lens on a full-frame camera. This setup is familiar to smartphone users, as many flagship phones use lenses with similar wide perspectives.
However, the f/2.8 aperture is not as bright as some wanted. Earlier rumours suggested an even faster f/2.4 lens, but the latest leak points to f/2.8, which means the X-Half may not excel in low-light conditions compared to rivals with wider apertures. For example, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra smartphone features a 1-inch sensor and a much brighter f/1.6 lens in a smaller body, giving it an edge for night and indoor photography.
Despite this, Fujifilm’s reputation for high-quality optics could help the X-Half stand out, especially for those who value image quality and a unique shooting experience.
The camera is also rumoured to include a “film roll mode” that disables image review, mimicking the feel of shooting on film and appealing to photography enthusiasts seeking a more deliberate approach.
The Fujifilm X-Half is expected to launch around May 22 and will likely be priced below the Fujifilm X-M5, which currently retails for about $899.99. Its compact size, retro-inspired design, and social media-friendly features could make it a hit among creators, even if it’s not the best choice for low-light photography.
