MediaTek has officially launched the Helio G200, aiming to power the next wave of budget and mid-range gaming smartphones. The chip promises better camera support, improved gaming, and smarter connectivity. But how much does it actually improve over the popular Helio G100? Reported by Gizmochina.
The Helio G200 uses the same 6nm manufacturing process and core CPU setup as the G100: two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2GHz and six power-saving Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.
The GPU is a Mali-G57 MC2, now clocked at a slightly higher 1.1GHz for smoother gaming. Memory and storage support remain unchanged with LPDDR4X RAM (up to 4266Mbps) and UFS 2.2 storage.
Main Upgrade: Camera and Connectivity
The biggest leap comes in camera capabilities. The G200 supports up to 200MP sensors and introduces a new 12-bit Dual Conversion Gain (DCG) for improved video HDR.
There’s also a triple ISP setup for faster image processing and advanced AI noise reduction. For gamers, MediaTek’s HyperEngine technology now tunes network and display settings for better performance during play.
Connectivity also gets a boost with features like DCSAR technology for stronger signal reception and a new “Elevator Mode” to keep calls stable in challenging environments.
How Does It Compare to the Helio G100?

Should You Upgrade?
If you care about better photos, video HDR, and gaming, the G200 is a solid upgrade-especially for mid-range phones from brands like Xiaomi and Tecno. But for everyday use, performance is nearly identical to the G100, as both chips share the same main architecture and speed.
The real-world difference will be most noticeable in camera quality and gaming smoothness, not in basic speed. Expect to see the Helio G200 in upcoming budget gaming phones and camera-centric models soon.
