Sony’s next flagship headphones, the WH-1000XM6, have been pictured for the first time, confirming a fresh design and several big upgrades.

The leaked image, reportedly from a Sony internal roadmap, shows the XM6 returning to a foldable hinge design feature fans missed in the previous XM5 model.

Foldable Design Returns, Stronger Hinges

The WH-1000XM6 now folds for easier storage, making it more travel-friendly than the non-folding XM5. Sony has also reinforced the hinges, addressing complaints from XM5 users about cracked parts over time.

The headband is newly designed, while the ear cups remain similar to the previous version.

Major Tech Upgrades and Features

The XM6 debuts Sony’s updated QN3 noise-cancelling chip and packs 12 microphones, with 6 dedicated to noise cancellation. This promises better noise blocking and a more accurate Ambient Sound mode. Other highlights include:

  • 10-band graphic EQ (up from 6 bands on older models)
  • New Game EQ and “360 Upmix for Cinema” for surround sound
  • Use while charging (a first for the series)
  • Up to 30 hours battery life and fast charging
  • Available in black, silver, and midnight blue

Pricing and Launch Details

The WH-1000XM6 is expected to launch around May 15, possibly alongside the Xperia 1 VII phone.

In Europe, the price is estimated at €470 (about ₹42,000), roughly 10% higher than the XM5. US pricing could be around $439–$449. Retail availability may start in mid-June in some regions.
