Taiwanese electronics maker Wistron has announced that its new manufacturing plants in the United States, built for its client Nvidia, will be ready for production next year. This move is a big step in supporting Nvidia’s plan to create AI servers worth up to $500 billion in the US over the next four years.
Wistron is also in talks with other potential customers to use these facilities, though their names remain under wraps. This shows the company’s aim to grow its American footprint.
A Major Boost for AI Technology
Back in April, Nvidia shared plans to set up supercomputer manufacturing sites in Texas, partnering with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas. Both locations are expected to start full production within 12 to 15 months. These plants will focus on high-performance computing and AI-related products, in driving technology’s future.
Wistron’s CEO, Jeff Lin, said their progress matches Nvidia’s timeline. We will follow the customer’s lead, he said, demonstrating their commitment to the partnership.
Big Investment and Global Plans
Wistron’s board has approved a huge $500 million investment in its new US subsidiary. This funding will help expand the business and strengthen their position in the US market. Meanwhile, with US restrictions on advanced chip exports to China, Jeff Lin noted that demand outside China is still very strong, especially in regions like the Middle East.
On the global front, the United Arab Emirates and the US signed a deal this week to build the largest AI campus outside of America. This could mean buying up to 500,000 of Nvidia’s top AI chips every year starting in 2025.
Wistron is also looking at making notebooks in Mexico to avoid US tariffs under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. This shows their smart planning in a changing trade landscape.
