Xiaomi announced that it has started mass production of the Xring O1 mobile chip it developed itself. This news came straight from Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, on his personal Weibo account.
This is a proud moment for Xiaomi as it joins the elite group of tech giants designing their own chips. According to a Weibo post by Lei Jun, the first devices to run on this chip will be the Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone and the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra tablet.
A Big Launch Ahead
Xiaomi is gearing up for a major event on Thursday, May 22, 2025, where these devices will be unveiled. The Xring O1 chip, built on a cutting-edge 3nm process, promises top-notch performance.
Early benchmarks show it rivals Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, with impressive scores in the single-core and multi-core tests.
Huge Investment in Innovation
Xiaomi isn’t holding back on this project. Lei Jun shared that the company has already invested 13.5 billion yuan (about $1.87 billion) in developing the Xring O1.
Looking ahead, Xiaomi plans to pour at least 50 billion yuan more into chip design over the next 10 years. This shows their commitment to creating their own technology and reducing their reliance on foreign suppliers like Qualcomm.
The Xring O1 isn’t just a chip; it’s a sign of Xiaomi’s push for tech independence. With a powerful 10-core CPU and a strong GPU, it’s built for speed and efficiency.
