YouTube Tests New Premium Plan for Two Users in India and Select Markets

YouTube is testing a two-person Premium plan at Rs 219/month in India, offering ad-free viewing and music for couples or roommates, cheaper than the family plan.

YouTube is now testing a new Premium plan for two users in select markets, including India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. This new option lets two people share all the usual Premium benefits-ad-free videos, YouTube Music, background play, and offline downloads-at a lower price than the family plan.

The two-person plan costs Rs 219 per month in India, compared to Rs 149 for a single user and Rs 299 for the family plan (which supports up to six users). For those interested only in music, a similar YouTube Music Premium duo plan is available at Rs 149 per month.

To sign up, both users must be 13 or older, have Google accounts, and belong to the same Google Family group. This makes it ideal for couples, roommates, or small households who want to save money but don’t need the larger family plan.

YouTube says this pilot aims to give subscribers more flexibility and value. The plan is currently available only to selected users and may not roll out widely unless the test is successful.

This move comes as YouTube looks to boost subscription revenue, especially after recent price hikes and a crackdown on ad blockers. If successful, the two-person plan could become a popular choice for small families or pairs who want premium features without paying for unused slots.
