DeepSeek Nears $74 Billion Valuation in Pre-IPO Round Ahead of STAR Listing

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is nearing a fresh funding round valuing the firm at $74 billion ahead of a planned Shanghai STAR Market listing.

Chinese artificial intelligence firm DeepSeek is finalizing a major funding round targeting a $74 billion pre-money valuation. The Hangzhou-based developer seeks approximately 50 billion yuan to finance massive infrastructure expansion plans.

This latest capital injection marks the startup’s second major fundraising push within just three months during 2026.

Massive Pre-IPO Round Expands Computing Infrastructure

The company recently closed an initial external financing round that raised roughly $7 billion in June 2026. Founder and chief executive Liang Wenfeng personally funded nearly half of that prior package.

Strong institutional demand from regional state funds and tech investors quickly prompted leadership to open the subsequent round.

Existing backers including CATL, Monolith, and Shixiang Capital participated heavily alongside new state-backed investment consortiums. Financial filings show the startup generated 475 million yuan in commercial revenue across early 2026.

That top-line surge represents a ten-fold increase compared to total annual earnings recorded throughout 2025.

Domestic Silicon Push Reduces Foreign Hardware Reliance

Fresh proceeds will primarily fund gigawatt-scale computing clusters designed to train next-generation frontier reasoning models. Capital will also accelerate internal development of proprietary AI inference silicon accelerators.

Custom chip initiatives aim to insulate domestic AI research from tightening international export restrictions on advanced semiconductors.

Alongside hardware investments, the company is aggressively expanding technical talent pools across engineering and mathematics disciplines. These specialized research units continue optimizing open-weight architectures following global acclaim for model efficiency.

The firm is also establishing premium enterprise tier APIs to monetize high-throughput workloads among institutional and corporate clients.

Public Listing Sets Stage for Global Rivalry

Leadership is utilizing this financing as a formal bridge toward an anticipated domestic stock listing. DeepSeek intends to submit regulatory filings on the Shanghai STAR Market by late 2026.

A successful public market debut in 2027 would mark the first premier generative AI listing in China.

While American rivals rely on massive venture debt, DeepSeek balances aggressive scaling with lean algorithmic architectures. This pragmatic funding trajectory positions the firm as a formidable counterweight to Western AI dominance.
