Prusa Research has announced a comprehensive mid-cycle refresh across its CoreXY and toolchanger 3D printer ecosystem. The new lineup introduces the second-generation CORE One+ (Gen 2), a larger-format CORE One L+, and the enhanced XL+ flagship multi-toolhead machine.
The update brings widespread quality-of-life enhancements, reduced preparation times, improved surface finishes, and faster multi-toolhead alignments without increasing retail pricing across the board.
Standardized Upgrades Across the “+” Lineup
Across all the refreshed “+” models, Prusa has standardized several community-requested hardware refinements:
- Integrated Nozzle Wiper: A dedicated mechanical wiper now cleans the nozzle before print initiation, ensuring cleaner initial extrusion and reducing stray filament blobs on first layers.
- GT1.5 Belts: Upgraded precision belts minimize repeating microscopic tooth patterns (Vertical Fine Artifacts / VFA), resulting in noticeably smoother exterior perimeters.
- Direct Upgrade Paths: Consistent with Prusa’s open hardware philosophy, upgrade kits will be offered for owners of previous-generation CORE One and XL machines.
- Price Protection: Existing in-flight orders are being upgraded to the new “+” iterations at no additional cost, with standard retail prices remaining unchanged.
Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2): Smarter Thermals and Rapid Start Times
The CORE One+ (Gen 2) builds on Prusa’s fully enclosed desktop CoreXY platform. A key mechanical update is the redesigned heatbed mounting system featuring thermal expansion joints. This design eliminates the preheat “heat absorption” soak time for print profiles with bed temperatures of 85 °C or below, dramatically shortening the gap between sending a file and laying down the first layer.
Maintenance and servicing have also been streamlined thanks to a new snap-on top panel that gives quick access to the extruder assembly and motion system.
Prusa CORE One L+: Doubling the Build Volume
For makers and industrial users requiring substantial print volumes, the newly announced CORE One L+ doubles the print envelope of the standard model to 300 × 300 × 330 mm (~30 Liters).
Designed specifically to handle high-shrinkage engineering polymers such as ABS, ASA, PC, and Nylon blends, the CORE One L+ features a sealed, actively regulated enclosed chamber capable of sustaining internal temperatures up to 60 °C, preventing delamination and edge curling on large structural parts.
Prusa XL+: 20x Faster Tool Alignment and 360° Cooling
Prusa’s flagship multi-material, multi-toolhead platform receives a major boost in the form of the XL+. Among the headline upgrades:
- Eddy-Current Offset Calibration: Replacing previous calibration routines, the new eddy-current sensor enables automatic multi-toolhead alignment up to 20 times faster.
- 360-Degree Part Cooling: A redesigned omnidirectional cooling shroud balances airflow symmetrically around the nozzle, yielding cleaner bridges, steep overhangs, and fine details.
- High-Flow as Standard: The XL+ now comes standard with high-flow nozzles for higher volumetric throughput on rapid infill passes.
- Thermal Chamber Options: The enclosure passively maintains up to 50 °C, with an optional active heating module available to achieve steady 60 °C chamber temps.
Availability and Upgrade Kits
The Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2), CORE One L+, and XL+ are available through the official Prusa e-shop. Existing owners of earlier generation CORE One and XL models can purchase dedicated conversion kits to upgrade their machines to the latest specifications.
